There are two offices in Christ's church that men may hold: elder (overseer, pastor) and deacon (servant). For a full treatise on these offices, we would recommend Alexander Strauch's excellent books, Biblical Eldership and The New Testament Deacon.

For a detailed view of what GBFC believes about elders and deacons, please click here. To summarize, though, GBFC is neither a congregational-rule church, nor a one-man-rule church. The biblical pattern is for a local church to be led by group of elders. Each man will have different giftings and different callings. Some may earn their living from the gospel, while others may hold secular employment. Each one, though, is to serve faithfully as an under-shepherd of the flock, accountable to the Chief Shepherd.

Tom Abell, deacon Tom was born in Houston, Texas in 1945, and grew up in the small town of Wharton, Texas.   He became a Christian as a teenager and was baptized.  He and Janie met during college and were married.  They have three children, one son-in-law, two daughters-in-law, and seven grandchildren.  Tom was previously a deacon at Paris Bible Church before moving to the McKinney area.  He and Janie have been attending GBFC since 2003, where Tom was ordained as a deacon in 2009.
Jay Cook, deacon Jay was born in Germany, but grew up in the Dallas, TX area.  He came to know the Lord Jesus through an evangelistic co-worker in 1991, and was brought to a saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.  He has been married to Tina since in 1992, and they have two children.  Jay has been a member of Grace Bible Fellowship Church since 2004, and was ordained as a deacon in 2009.
Dave Dunbar, elder Dave was born and raised in South Dakota.  During his sophomore year in college, he heard the preaching of the gospel of Christ, came under conviction of sin, and repented in saving faith.  He loves the God-exalting doctrines of Scripture and how they affect the way we live.  He has been married to Susanna since 1985, and has been blessed with seven children.  He served as a deacon at two churches in his younger days, and he has been an elder at GBFC since 1997.
Doug Gillespie, elder

Doug was born in Dallas, Texas and has lived in the DFW metroplex area all his life.  He has been married to his wife, Ginny, since 1988.  They have been blessed with two sons.  Doug became a Christian in 1997.  He has served as a deacon at a previous church, and has been an elder at GBFC since 2009.  He also serves as a counselor for Grace Biblical Counseling Ministries.

Lyndon Shook, elder Lyndon was born in Midland, TX and grew up in Houston, TX.  After meeting Tammy in college, they married in 1984.  He and Tammy have five children, all boys, and one daughter-in-law.  Lyndon pastored a church in Canton, TX for five years and has been at GBFC since 2003.  He is a NANC certified biblical counselor and is the director of Grace Biblical Counseling Ministries.
